Cheney For [Fill In Office of Choice Here]?

I am sitting here before my monitor and keyboard in stunned disbelief. I cannot seem to grasp the fact that I've just read a profile of a conservative on the NYT website, and it was actually fair. Amazing! The profile was of a Mrs. Liz Cheney, daughter of one Richard Bruce Cheney.

So, what did the fishwrap of record have to say about Liz Cheney?

Liz Cheney looks nothing like her father, but it is clear who he is. She was introduced as “our favorite vice president’s daughter” at a recent gathering of conservative women here. She kept invoking him in her speech, conveying his best regards, and likes to share cute stories about Dad trying to master his new BlackBerry.

Like her father, Ms. Cheney speaks in understated, almost academic cadences, head veering down into her notes. She also shares his willingness to pummel President Obama in stark, disdainful tones, not so much criticizing as taunting him.

“Mr. President, in a ticking time-bomb scenario, with American lives at stake,” she said, “are you really unwilling to subject a terrorist to enhanced interrogation to get information that would prevent an attack?”

By speech’s end, the crowd was standing, and the former vice president’s daughter was being mobbed for photos and hounded to run for office.

Liz continues to represent a branch of Conservatism which is extremely hawkish on foreign policy. She believes adamantly that nothing is more important than the safety of the American people, as displayed by her passionate defense of Bush era policies on HVD's (high value detainees) and enhanced interrogation techniques.

There is little doubt that public support for Bush era policies was at its lowest point within the last nine months, but with new happenings from Iran, NorKo, Honduras and Venezuela it is quickly becoming a resurgent ideology.

I am interested to know what you folks think of Cheney policies on foreign policy. Is Liz Cheney a viable candidate for the Conservative party? Is the Cheney name too damaged to ever again hold high office? Is Liz someone you'd want representing you? Be sure to leave your comments below!

If you're interested in the NYT article, it's here.

12 People Have Had Their Say:

CL, the Cheney name is only "damaged" with the brain damaged/dead left. Just as the Kennedy name is "damaged" with right thinking people.

I believe that she would be an excellent addition on a national ticket...but probably more effective at a cabinet level post...maybe AG...State?

Heh! Maybe Barry will hire her. She's a Chicago Law grad.

That will change, the instant she decides to "cross the Rubicon" and run for political office. Fair and balanced reporting will go the way of honesty from the Left, if Liz Cheney seeks a national office.

Just ask Sarah Palin.

However, since the NYT long ago lost credibility with me, it doesn't matter what they say about anything or anyone. They're irrelevant.

Who exactly is this mysterious VP Cheney guy? Are we talking about the one that so badly embarrassed Joe Lieberman in a debate as the render the Democrat Party as nothing but a group of idiots?

Liz is not only viable, but necessary. Or so I think.

But, CL, what stands out the most in your post is that you said "Conservative Party" - something I think is a long time coming and about to grow like wildfire. Which is a good thing.

Andy- I didn't realize she was a Chicago Law grad. My opinion of Chicago just increased 75% (and my wife is from Chitown, too)!

Skunks- Rule number one for the ugly step-sister of the Democratic party (that'd be the press) is destroy any conservative with a legitimate shot at high office. They'll try and tie every 'deplorable' thing her father ever did around her neck in an effort to sink her. The thing I look forward to is her firing back. I think Liz has a bigger set than Chris Keith or any oher liberal shills in the dinosaur media!

Paul- This would be the fruit of that Cheney's loins.

CJ- I believe the absolute best and most viable shot we have at getting a Conservative party is to shift the Republican Party to the right. I have an innate fear of third parties and their ability to elect the worst representation of the opponents party (think Clinton and Bush, Jr.).

But, CL, if we elect Libertarians we get FREE WEED!!!

I honestly don't know if "Conservative Party" should be a third party or not, but I do know that as it stands, the Republican Party has completely turned me off. There jut doesn't seem to be much "Republic" left in the Republican Party. That's either going to have to change or people will continue turning away from it as they are now.

Paul is all about the free weed. Dang.

CJ, the free weed would not be for me, it's for the children!!!

Oh, and by the way, CL - Liz has a sense of class about her that rivals TheSarah's. As a CHICK, that wins her some major points in my book. (Unlike a certain FLOTUS, just sayin')

Paul, don't forget the spotlight game and SKATE LIMBO!!!
