In an article posted online, USA Today proclaims:
"Amid complaints about high taxes and calls for a smaller government, Americans paid their lowest level of taxes last year since Harry Truman's presidency, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data found. That's right, folks, your taxes have fallen! Time to abandon the Tea Party! Give up! Your battle is won!
Some conservative political movements such as the "Tea Party" have criticized federal spending as being out of control. While spending is up, taxes have fallen to exceptionally low levels."
USA Today also posts a handy chart to the left of the article to show how taxes as a percent of income have declined since the year 2000.
There's only one, teeny weeny little problem with USA Today's propaganda piece. The neglect to mention that income as a whole has dropped due to the number of jobless. That's right, 'Americans paid their lowest level of taxes' because unemployment is at near historic levels. "While spending is up, taxes have fallen to exceptionally low levels', because there are much fewer tax payers to collect from.
USA Today even has a summary at the end of the article dispalying why 'the tax bite has eased'. Nowhere do they attribute the loss of jobs as a determining reason. Way to go, USA Today! Carry that water!

3 People Have Had Their Say:
I'm sure the good folks at USA Today will make a front page correction first thing tomorrow morning.
Buehler? Buehler?
I'm holding by breath as I type, Mr. Mayor. This is what I look like right now, without the gay hair and smirk. This is what I will look like when USA Today makes a correction.
Progressives are stupid and should get the Hell off my planet. NOW.
