Read The $&#*@ing Bill!

0 Informed Opinions

Not only can we not get anyone in DC to read a bill before they vote on it, we can't even get them to read a bill that has become law before trashing it in the press. Please watch these two videos in order. Have a bucket near by as your brain may run out your ears.

The above video was taken on April 28th, shortly after the AZ bill became law.

The above video was taken on May 13th, more than two weeks after the press conference in the CNN video above.

Holder: "It's a horrible law that will lead to racial profiling.

Congressman Poe: "Have you read the law?"

Holder: "Er..."

Yup, that pretty much looks right.

What does this tell us. In Washington DC, you don't need to be informed to give an opinion. Ergo, trust nothing that leaks from the pie-hole of anyone remotely associated with the most retarded administration in history. BTW, he wasn't the only one.

Brilliance on the Political Left

1 Informed Opinion

As some of you know, I am constantly searching for the most brilliant people on the left. There are those who would argue that it is a vain effort, but I disagree because I truly believe that there are intelligent people on both the right and the left.

Take this gentleman for example. The grandson of German immigrants, he took an interest in journalism while attending high school, covering sports for The News-Gazette. He began writing letters of comment to science fiction fanzines, and became involved in sci-fi fandom writing his own articles. His senior year, he won a high school association state speech championship. He went on to receive an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

His writing career has brought him notoriety the world around, and is widely believed to be one of (if not the) best in his field. He's also written screenplays, published several books and made appearances in movies. He's a guest lecturer at the University of Chicago, and writes a column for a major Chicago newspaper. It's easy to say that this man is quite successful and must be amongst the best and the brightest. Who am I speaking of? Why, this man, of course:

Roger Ebert's latest diarrhea diatribe
Yes, Roger Ebert, one of the most distinguished minds on the left today. What makes Roger such an elite leftist mind? Well in addition to the brilliance he displayed on his twitter page above, he's also advocated the 'horse whipping' of Rush Limbaugh for Limbaugh's criticism of Obama's handling of the Haitian earthquake and specifically the effort to funnel donations through the White House website. Roger Ebert continues to spew diarrhea from what's left of his smug little pie hole.

Now, specifically to the tweet he blessed the world with yesterday. Ebert was responding to the story out of Morgan Hill, CA where students wearing American Flag clothing on the 5th of May were kicked out of school. Why were they asked to remove the clothing, or face suspension? Why, because the 5th of May is a holiday for Mexicans, and wearing American Flag themed clothing on such a day would be insensitive to Mexican-Americans. AYFKM?!

Let's dive into this issue, just a skosh. First, I am going to be generous and assume that since the students are enrolled at a high school in Morgan Hill that they are, in fact legal citizens, and not criminal aliens. Therefore, the American flag is their flag, too. No citizen should be offended at the sight of their flag, no citizen. Cinco de Mayo is a holiday and celebration of the Mexican Army's victory over the French. While it has become a day of revelry in the United States, it is not a holiday and enjoys no state or federal distinction as such, nor should it. There are some who might say that the boys at Live Oak High School wore the clothing on May 5th in an effort to provoke students of Hispanic decent. Even if that were the boys intent, the wearing of patriotic clothing should never be a provocation and the fact that it might be or that it is, is an illustration of the government's failure to encourage and enforce assimilation into US society. This has become a politically charged issue, primarily because of the federal government's and California state government's unwillingness to address illegal immigration. We have also avoided enforcing assimilation into US culture and have encouraged the radical embracing of Mexican culture all across the southwest. Make no mistake, this is a huge problem. Don't believe me? Here's what Theodore Roosevelt had to say about immigrants, emphasis mine:
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but is something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." ~1919
---
“We can have no "50-50" allegiance in this country. Either a man is an American and nothing else, or he is not an American at all.”
These are quotes from an American President from nearly a century ago, and yet we've forgotten these words in favor of inclusiveness and cultural sensitivity. Teddy was clear, anyone who asserts themselves to be anything other than 100% American is not an American at all.

This kinda flies in what's left of the face of Roger Ebert and his assertion that anyone who chooses to wear American Flag T-Shirts on May 5th are the same as traitors, doesn't it? Ebert, and those who believe as he does are a threat to the nation, and for that, he should be horse whipped. Roger Ebert has little respect for our nation of laws, and quite possibly even less respect for the men who fought to make her what she is today. He places no value on the pillars of our society (language, culture and history), and for that should be dragged by his slack jaw to the border, and tossed over.

Roger Ebert, one of the 'brilliant minds' on today's left.

Andy's take.

Innominatus has some interesting thoughts on Cinco de Mayo.

The only thing I can't figure out is why Ebert was suggesting that lefty kids wearing USSR flag clothing (who are heroes in his eyes) must be subjected to hanging out with the patriotic zealots wearing American flag gear.

Don't Accept The Premise

0 Informed Opinions

FAIL!

In reading an article over at American Thinker entitled Retaking the Offensive in the Illegals Fight, this stuck out at me. Here is a quote from the article.
The key to end-running Mr. Obama is to factually assert that he's failing his oath of office. The president of the United States is firing off charges of racism because he doesn't want to do anything substantive to seal the nation's borders, staunch the flow of illegals, and send illegals on American soil packing. His partisan agenda to legalize illegals and harvest their votes trumps American national security interests. Mr. Obama aims to keep the illegals pipeline open between Mexico and the United States. A steady supply of new Democratic voters is a very good thing for Democrats.

Most Americans see the Democrats' harvest of illegals has a Harvest of Shame. To turn a blind eye to America's porous southern border makes a mockery of Mr. Obama's constitutional oath to protect and defend the United States. It flouts the nation's immigration laws, thereby undermining respect for law generally. It tells those immigrants and their American sponsors who are playing by the rules and jumping through every hoop to obtain and keep legal residence that they're awfully big suckers.

The charge of dereliction of duty against Mr. Obama needs to be made over and over again until it sticks like superglue. Is this a tough line of attack? You bet. But charging Americans as being racists because they simply want state and national laws against illegals upheld and enforced ain't exactly beanbag. When it comes to grabbing power and holding it, the left and Democrats never play beanbag.
Don't let them set the premise. Take the offensive and press our advantage. The law is on our side, and they are arguing against federal statutes. Obama is actively fighting against his oath of office.

Go read the whole thing.

Facts Regarding Illegal Immigration

The facts on illegal immigration

Clarice Feldman

As the rhetoric on illegal aliens residing in the U.S. heats up, it would be nice to have some reliable facts with which to work. The Congressional Research Service has put them together for us--the numbers, areas of residence, time of arrival, participation in the work force--all in one tightly written pdf file.

Update:

Doug Ross has reviewed the Congressional Research Service's paper on illegal aliens in the U.S. and winkled out some interesting data and charts. For example, 23% of all illegal aliens in the U.S. reside in California and 5% of the U.S. work force consists of illegals.

Federal Immigration Law

0 Informed Opinions

Just in case you ever wondered what the Federal Immigration Statute is, below is the section regarding Improper Entry and Powers of Enforcement Officers. You'll notice that the Powers of Enforcement Officers echos the Arizona statute or vise-versa, except that the Arizona statute goes a step further and offers a definitive metric, i.e. showing of papers.

Winner, nonsensical statement of the century.

(a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts

  1. enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or

  2. eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or

  3. attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

(b) Improper time or place; civil penalties

Any alien who is apprehended while entering (or attempting to enter) the United States at a time or place other than as designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil penalty of—

  1. at least $50 and not more than $250 for each such entry (or attempted entry); or

  2. twice the amount specified in paragraph (1) in the case of an alien who has been previously subject to a civil penalty under this subsection.

Civil penalties under this subsection are in addition to, and not in lieu of, any criminal or other civil penalties that may be imposed.

(d) Immigration-related entrepreneurship fraud

  2. to arrest any alien who in his presence or view is entering or attempting to enter the United States in violation of any law or regulation made in pursuance of law regulating the admission, exclusion, expulsion, or removal of aliens, or to arrest any alien in the United States, if he has reason to believe that the alien so arrested is in the United States in violation of any such law or regulation and is likely to escape before a warrant can be obtained for his arrest, but the alien arrested shall be taken without unnecessary delay for examination before an officer of the Service having authority to examine aliens as to their right to enter or remain in the United States;

  4. to make arrests for felonies which have been committed and which are cognizable under any law of the United States regulating the admission, exclusion, expulsion, or removal of aliens, if he has reason to believe that the person so arrested is guilty of such felony and if there is likelihood of the person escaping before a warrant can be obtained for his arrest, but the person arrested shall be taken without unnecessary delay before the nearest available officer empowered to commit persons charged with offenses against the laws of the United States; and

  5. to make arrests—
    • for any offense against the United States, if the offense is committed in the officer’s or employee’s presence, or
    • for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States, if the officer or employee has reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing such a felony,

if the officer or employee is performing duties relating to the enforcement of the immigration laws at the time of the arrest and if there is a likelihood of the person escaping before a warrant can be obtained for his arrest.
