Brilliance Personified, The Best and The Brightest!

6 Informed Opinions

Note: this is a temporary deviance from my previous post becuase the material below had to be addressed. However, please continue to send responses (except for Paul who wants me to eat a doughnut for some reason), as I will be summing the Libertarian versus Conservative viewpoints later this week.

Seeing as these examples of the finest in our culture and country continue to pour in, Brilliance Personified may have to become a regular feature here at IACLAYST.

As I was driving around this morning listening to Limbaugh, as I am apt to do when I get pissed at Colin Cowherd, I heard these exchanges between WJR's Ken Rogulski and two different unidentified women in front of Detroit's Cobo Hall where the women were waiting in line to fill out a request form to avoid foreclosure. Here is the unbelievable audio:

I nearly drove off the road into a tree, I kid you not. And, I can't be doing that crap, I already have two tickets for speeding and a little fender bender on my record. Anything more and I lose my DL, yo! Here is the transcript of the exchange between Rogulski and the unidentified women:

ROGULSKI:Why are you here ?

Woman: To get some money

ROGULSKI: What kind of Money ?

Woman: Obama money

ROGULSKI: Where’s it comin; from ?

Woman: Obama

ROGULSKI: And where did Obama get it from ?

WOMAN: I don’t know, his stash. I don’t know. I don’t know where he got it from, but he’s givin’ it to us. And we love him. That’s why we voted for him. O-ba-ma. O-ba-ma.

(...)

ROGULSKI: Did you get an application to fill out yet?

WOMAN: I sure did. And I filled it out, and I am waiting to see what the results are going to be.

ROGULSKI: Will you know today how much money you’re getting?

WOMAN: No, I won’t, but I’m waiting for a phone call.

ROGULSKI: Where’s the money coming from?

WOMAN: I believe it’s coming from the City of Detroit or the state.

ROGULSKI: Where did they get it from?

WOMAN: Some funds that was forgiven (sic) by Obama.

ROGULSKI: And where did Obama get the funds?

WOMAN: Obama getting the funds from… Ummm, I have no idea, to tell you the truth. He’s the president.

This is how idiotic this country has become. People literally have no concept of where the government get's it's money. Knowing nothing more than this about these two women, I am inclined to call them both morons and pass judgment on why they happen to be standing in line in front of Detroit's Cobo Hall, which by the way became a riot scene later that day as officials ran out of the assistance forms. I was reminded of a video from shortly before the election last year which shows a euphoric woman describing her experience at an Obama rally, behold:

We ain't rich like y'all, but one day THIS YEAR we will be because we got Barack Obama!

Please excuse me, I have to go get my white hood, horses and wooden crosses for the klan meeting tonight. I am obviously a raaaaacist for publishing such material on my blog.

Clearing the Air

2 Informed Opinions

Who farted?! No seriously, who did it? It's probably Rangel from that earlier post... Anyway, Ezra Klein writes a piece (of trash) in the Washington Post, taking to task Charles Krauthammer regarding his piece on rationing of health care. Did you follow that? If you didn't I blame it on the stench wafting around in here, seriously... Someone is rotting from the inside out. Bleh!

Anyhow, Ronald Bailey helps clear the air, by addressing both Charles Krauthammer and Ezra Klein, explaining that (big shocker here) Krauthammer's outcome is plausable, and Ezra Klein is a liberal who doesn't understand the definition of 'rationing.'

Yeah, yeah, yeah that's all well and good, but the best part of Ronald Bailey's piece comes at the end. Actually, after the end... in the comment section. Just take a look:

That's way too many words to waste debunking that whiny little half-man. Ezra Klein is a self-refuting argument."

R C Dean | August 28, 2009, 3:15pm | #
Really, Ezra Klein is like the fat kid at the dodgeball game; its just too easy.

The abuse of the term "rationing" is classic lefty Newspeak: take a perfectly good word with a reasonably clear meaning, and beat it until it says what you want.

Aresen | August 28, 2009, 4:04pm | #
That last one's my favorite. It's obviously from a liberal trying to defend Ezra.

Check the piece out... What do you mean, 'which one?' Any of them, all of them, I don't care, but I wish you'd start rationing your gas emissions.

Why Health Care Is So Expensive

0 Informed Opinions

Here's a decent video addressing why health care in America is so expensive.

About the only thing that I would point out is that without the initial expensive R&D of these drug companies, we would never have the generic's to purchase for less. Tort reform will work at reducing costs here as well as frivolous medical lawsuits. Also, anybody think these administrative costs are going to go down, once the government adds another layer or 7 of bureaucracy?
This surely can't make up all of the exorbitant costs associated with health care, though can it?

Oh. Well, that would explain some things...

Anybody think the costs Shelly mentions will go down if the public option becomes law?

BTW, how much is this 'single payer' plan going to cost us?

Hmm. What the hell are we waiting for?! Universal Health Care for all most some!!!

Loser Doesn't Get It

2 Informed Opinions

That Palin hating jackass is serious! He's mad as hell and he ain't going to take it any more! "It is that goddamn simply[sic]."

Here are some of my favorite lines from his persuasive argument for universal health care:
  • "After the last few weeks of watching phony demonstrators disrupt health care town halls to protect the profits of insurance companies, after seeing the elderly frightened by our ex-Governor's lies about 'death panels", and after watching President Obama lose his focus and actually considered taking the public option of of the table, it is time to stop dicking around and to get serious."
  • "Take a moment to tell [Alaska Senator] Mark Begich how important it is that he support the public option and that you don't want your health care left in the hands of companies who pay their CEO's tens of millions of dollars a year to save money by keeping their customers from getting the medical procedures that they require."
  • "The public option will dramatically bring down the cost of health care across the board and cut into the profit margin for these jackasses, which is the real reason they oppose it so aggressively. If you don't believe me then just read this AP article:"
  • "A study by the Urban Institute public policy center estimated that a public plan could save taxpayers from $224 billion to $400 billion over 10 years by lowering the cost of proposed subsidies for the uninsured, while preserving private coverage for most people."
  • "So please do yourselves a favor, and the countless Americans that will benefit from our actions today, and make that call/send that e-mail/write that letter. Just think of how proud your children will be that you helped solve one of the biggest problems facing Americans today."
This blog post is so full of FAIL, I don't hardly know where to start. Luckily for you, I'll press on none-the-less!
  • "phony demonstrators"
  • Granny with her home made sign is nothing more than phony astroturf! Quit shopping at Brooks Brothers, Nana!
  • "protect the profits of insurance companies"
  • I can't tell you how many "State Farm Rules," "Farmers Is My Homey," and "I'm Down With The Duck" posters I've seen during the unending media coverage of this issue. It's clear that protesters are only interested in huge profits for big insurance!
  • "Companies who pay their CEO's tens of millions of dollars a year"
  • Cause we all know you can get someone who is perfectly capable of running a 'Fortune 500' company for $67,000 per year. Pretty sure Jon Stinton, Sheldon Drobny and Anita Drobny are available.
  • "save money by keeping their customers from getting the medical procedures that they require"
  • Wild accusation, with no evidence to back it up. Time to check your facts!
  • "public option will dramatically bring down the cost of health care"
  • We're you born this stupid, or does it take practice?
  • "study by the Urban Institute public policy center"
  • Cause we all know the Urban Institute has no agenda!
  • "Just think of how proud your children will be"
  • As they are toiling away in some Chinese mine repaying the debts their parents and grandparents incurred but could not pay back.
Unintended moment of honesty:
"If we do not get this reform passed now there is no telling how long it will take before we will have the opportunity again. And after two strikes WHO in the Democratic party would be wiling to take on such a hot potato again? Nobody, that's who."
That's right, my fellow 'political terrorists,' we have the upper hand! Press it home, do not let up, do not surrender, do not back down! The result will be all too serious if we fail.

Things I'm Entitled To, Because:

9 Informed Opinions

Entitlements. There are two intrinsic reactions to that word. If you're a liberal, it's about justice, equality and sticking it to the man. If you're a conservative, you just cringed. Entitlements, in this day and age, are government funded programs which provide some 'service' to a certain segment of the population. The reality is, if you look at the 2009 Federal Budget, entitlements combined take up more than any other part of that 2.9 Trillion Dollar disaster. Viewing the budget, and ruminating on what this country can do to better care for it's citizenry, short of stealing a higher amount of tax dollars from those who actually pay to fund such programs, I decided to take a look at the crux of the argument on both sides. The root of the solution for one side, just happens to be the root of the problem, as far as the other side is concerned. I speak, of course, about the government.

Conservatives (and I'll lump libertarians in with them) view the massive bureaucracy and burdensome regulations and redtape that inevitably come along with said bureaucracy as the root of the overriding cost issue at the heart of the 'health care crisis.' We believe that with the lifting of the heavy handed involvement of said entity, the free market and economies of scale will right the ballooning costs of health care coverage, and ultimately drive insurance cost lower. This coupled with returning health insurance to it's rightful state; catastrophic care provision, will solve 99% of the issues that people have with today's insurance providers. Leftists, on the other hand, believe that only by increasing the government's involvement can a level playing field be ensured, and thus cost and care can be controlled.

Thinking over this issue, I struggled to comprehend how government involvement in any issue can simplify it or make it cheaper. It's obvious to me that if higher government involvement in any area is needed, it's in the area of entertainment movie making. If all were right in the world, Tom Selleck and Gary Sinise would be the most cast leading men ever, and George Lucas and Sean Penn would be hungry and penniless tag-teaming at the Sunset Exit off the 405 with a 'Will Direct for Food' sign.

Can someone please explain to me why we're not entitled to food? Why aren't we entitled to shelter? Why aren't we entitled to clothing? Why aren't we entitled to a freezer full of Filet Mignon? Why aren't we entitled to land? Why aren't we entitled to a mate? Why aren't we entitled to a car? Why aren't we entitled to a Slap Chop? Why are we not entitled to free internet? Why aren't we entitled to iPhones? Why aren't some of us entitled to get this point?

So since the universe is not just, and entitlements seem to rule the day, here is a short list of items to which I am entitled, in no particular order:

2010 Aston Martin DBS
Kate Beckinsale (suck it, Paul!)
A 40 acre estate overlooking Lake Tahoe on the California side
Two American Mastiffs named Zeus and Apollo
George Clooney's shack on Lake Como, Italy
A G650 Business Jet
A Personal Chef
A time traveling DeLorean
The Wynn Hotel and Casino
Tool
Peju Province Winery
The Batmobile

There'll be more to follow don't you fret none. In this new era of entitlement, what is it you're entitled to? Let me know in the comments.
